All about barefoot skiing

 

Barefoot skiing is when you water skii without using the skis. This is a type of skiing for the skilled and they will travel at very high speeds, faster than usual skiing. You should also know that you are more likely to fall. These falls will be very painful as well. This sport orginated in Florida and the first man to ever barefoot ski is Dick Pope Jr, way back in 1947.

Through out the 1950's the trend to barefoot ski was a water stunt, but now has become a full blown sport. There have been competitions going on for decades and there are championship titles for the sport and everything. You will be blown away when you witness someone barefoot skiing.

You should be aware that you can get a lot of injuries from the falls because you have to travel at high speeds to, in fact ski without skis. When it comes to some of the common injuries, they are very painful, but they don't have any long tern risk. The most common type of injury that you can get from barefoots skiing is if you fall you will most likely get the wind knocked out of you.

This is not serious, but if you don't remain calm, you can have a full blown panic attack. One of the most common serious injurt is known as the scorpion fall. This is when you fall forwards and your feet will actraully hit your back. This will do damage to your back and your spinal cord. This is the most painful fall and it also can be deadly. You may end up breaking your neck.

However, if you tuck your chin into your chest you can aviod such a fall. If you are falling you should let go of the rope immediately. You won't get too hurt if you fall backwards, but if you fall forwards you will want to make sure that your chin is in your chest and your close your eyes.

You shouldn't ski in water that has a lot of motion because when you do fall you may end up drowing or being un able to protector yourself from a fall.
